This blueberry and almond smoothie will provide you with the perfect energy boost you need to start your day. Wether you need a quick protein, nutrient, and energising drink to take on the go during you regular commute. Or are looking for a delicious drink to cool you down on a hot summer afternoon. This blueberry and almond smoothie is just the thing. Easy to make, gluten and dairy-free, and packed full of vitamins.

Ingredients you'll need

A glass of a dairy-free blueberry and banana smoothie on a wooden table next to a bowl of fruit.

I always recommend using the best quality ingredients, shopping seasonally, and sustainably sourced when possible. Below is each ingredient you will need:

Almond milk - Almond milk is preferred in this recipe as it add more almond flavour. However, any milk alternative will work at a 1:1 ratio. As well as dairy milks for those not on a lactose-free or vegan diet.

Ripe banana - I prefer to use ripe banana, either fresh or frozen. I do prefer frozen as it gives the smoothie a nice slushy texture and make the drink even colder. Meaning it stays colder for you commutes and is very refreshing in the summer.

Frozen blueberries - Frozen blueberries will create a colder smoothie and a nice overall texture as well as being cheaper to purchase. However, fresh blueberries from blueberry bush or store bought will work fine too.

Almond butter - Packed full of vitamins and nutrients plus incredibly morning. Smooth almond butter is what brings this blueberry smoothie up to the next level while providing you with a good dose of vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids.

Coconut yoghurt - Increases the protein content of this smoothie making you feel fuller for longer. You can use soya yoghurt or a dairy based yoghurt if you'd prefer.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you have a question you want to ask that isn't in the frequently ask questions, please feel free to send me a message or drop a comment at the bottom of the recipe. I try my best to answer every question to make sure you create perfect recipes every time.

Can I make this smoothie nut-free?

Yes, you can replace almond butter with a seed butter. And replace the almond milk with any nut-free milk alternative such as soya milk or rice milk to make this smoothie nut free. If you want to keep it gluten-free I suggest not using oat milk unless it's specifies that it's gluten-free due to the risk of cross contamination. It's also worth noting that some celiac individuals might react poorly to oats even when they are gluten-free certified.

Can I add more protein to this smoothie?

Yes, you can easily add 1 scoop of protein powder to this smoothie before blending. If you or the individual you are making this smoothie for have any other allergens or are on a vegan diet ensure that the protein powder you are using is suitable.

Can I make this blueberry & almond smoothie dairy-free?

This smoothie is 100% dairy-free.

Can I make this blueberry & almond smoothie soya-free?

This recipe is 100% soya-free thank to the use of almond milk.

Is this blueberry & almond smoothie vegan?

Yep, this smoothie recipe is vegan!

How do I store this blueberry & almond smoothie?

I recommend drinking this smoothie within the first few hours of blending due to the possibility of it separating over time. That being said giving it a shake in a protein shaker or travel cup can help bring it back together, especially if you are drinking this smoothie on the go.

Can I freeze this smoothie?

You can't freeze this smoothie. However, a useful tip for a thicker consistency and colder smoothie is to add frozen ripe banana to the recipe instead of a fresh one.
